The term access control refers to the practice of restricting entrance to a property, a building, or a room to authorized persons. Physical access control can be achieved by a human, through mechanical means such as locks and keys, or through technological means such as a card access system.
Alarmtech focuses on the use of electronic door strikes or magnetic locks that permit a door to be unlocked and opened provided the person attempting to enter has a valid means of identification, such as a "swipe card". The entrant would present their card to the reader and the system would determine if they were allowed to enter based on certain criteria such as day of the week, time of day, the door or area they are attempting to enter, or authority level.
